Today in the Library

Today: Book fair was held in my teaching space so I went to the 10th grade classroom to teach smart searching. Used the About page on Wikipedia to show the editors caution but reminded students that wiki = wonderful, a place where community and professional scholars build knowledge together — this takes time!
Looked at Google and savvy search techniques such as site:gov, site:edu, site:org and some inurl. Discussed and modeled keyword.
Really wish I’d pulled up some Ask.com results — would have made an interesting comparison since students are researching diseases.
Went to the subscription databases and that was that. Then students practiced and retrieved and struggled with reading content, determining author, date, etc.
Quite a day, running back and forth checking on things upstairs and teaching downstairs. Poor feet . Good feet. Thank you, feet.
